We recommend travel insurance on every trip we plan. A single unexpected event — a weather cancellation, a family emergency, a medical situation abroad — can cost more than the trip itself. The right policy turns an emergency into a phone call.
Gilt Spur Concierge does not underwrite or sell insurance policies directly. We can, however, introduce you to reputable providers and help you understand the categories of coverage to consider for the way you travel.
Medical Emergencies
Illness or injury abroad can mean significant out-of-pocket expense, and many U.S. health plans offer limited coverage overseas. Travel insurance can include emergency medical care, hospitalization, and — critically — medical evacuation back to the United States.
Trip Cancellation
Life changes. An illness, a family emergency, jury duty, or an unexpected work obligation can require canceling a trip after it is paid for. Cancellation coverage helps recover non-refundable deposits and supplier penalties.
Trip Interruption
If a trip in progress has to be cut short — illness, family emergency back home, a missed connection that derails an itinerary — interruption coverage can help recover the unused portion and unexpected return costs.
Lost or Delayed Baggage
Baggage that is lost, stolen, or significantly delayed can disrupt the start of a trip. Coverage helps with replacement essentials and the value of missing items.
Weather Events
Hurricanes, blizzards, and severe weather can disrupt flights, close ports, and force itinerary changes. Insurance can help cover the resulting cancellations, delays, and additional accommodations.
Supplier Default
Although rare, an airline, cruise line, or tour operator can cease operations between booking and travel. Comprehensive policies can include protection against supplier financial default.
A note on coverage
Policy terms, coverage limits, exclusions, and claim outcomes are determined solely by the insurance provider. We do not guarantee any specific coverage or claim result. We encourage clients to review policy documents carefully and to consider purchasing coverage at the time of initial deposit, as certain benefits (such as pre-existing condition waivers) are typically only available within a short window after booking.
